Prices are based on a minimum number of 10 delegates. In the unlikely event the minimum is not met by Tuesday, December 26, the program will be cancelled and a full refund will be issued.

Please note that this specialized program is being developed in conjunction with your professional counterpart organization.  The time, order, location, and content of the professional meetings are subject to availability of and confirmation by the hosts, as well as the relevant background and expertise of the traveling participants. This delegation will be traveling under OFAC regulation 31 CFR §515.564 General license for professional research. As such, participation is strongly encouraged for all scheduled meetings, both to remain compliant with regulations and as a general professional courtesy to the Cuban professional hosts. 

**A limited number of single rooms are available at extra cost on a first-come, first-served basis, but availability cannot be guaranteed. Academic Travel Abroad will assist persons requesting a roommate. However, neither a single room nor a share can be guaranteed. Participants will be contacted to confirm/deny space in a single occupancy room while making note of the request for a roommate. If we are successful in finding a suitable roommate, the enrollee will be refunded the single supplement. If we are unsuccessful in finding a suitable roommate, the enrollee will remain enrolled with the single occupancy package.

Day 1 — Monday, March 26, 2018

Depart on individual flights to Jose Marti International Airport, Havana, Cuba. Upon arrival, transfer to the hotel, Meliá Cohiba, for check-in. This evening, gather for an informational briefing and introduction, followed by a welcome dinner in a paladar, or privately-owned restaurant. (Dinner)

Day 2 — Tuesday, March 27, 2018

Begin the morning with a meeting at the Cuban Ministry of Health. Discuss the policy making role of the Ministry and how it impacts the quality and value of healthcare in Cuba. Following lunch, meet with representatives of the Union of Cuban Jurists (UNJC) to gain a general understanding of the Cuban legal system and discuss the role of the legal system in supporting patient rights. Dinner tonight will be at a local restaurant. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 3 — Wednesday, March 28, 2018

This morning, visit a hospital to review the development of healthcare and the current state of hospital-level services in Cuba. After lunch, visit a community-based Policlinico. Learn about the role of community doctors and nurses in dealing with trauma in Cuba. Dinner tonight will be at a local restaurant. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 4 — Thursday, March 29, 2018

After breakfast, visit a Family Doctor/Nurse clinic to discuss the role of the legal system in healthcare administration. Following lunch, meet with a representative of the UNJC to discuss access to care and continue the discussion on the role of law in healthcare. Dinner will be at leisure. (Breakfast, Lunch)

Day 5 — Friday, March 30, 2018

This morning, meet with a US Embassy representative for a briefing on the current legal position of the US in Cuba. Enjoy lunch before a follow up meeting with UNJC. Discuss the priorities of law and public health in Cuba. This evening, gather for a farewell dinner, followed by a special musical performance. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 6 — Saturday, March 31, 2018

Transfer to Jose Marti International Airport, Havana, Cuba for individual flights home. (Breakfast)

For US citizens, expenses associated with this program may be tax deductible as an ordinary and necessary business expense. We suggest that you consult with a tax advisor to determine if tax deductibility is applicable to you.

Please note the program does not include travel to and from your home airport to Havana.

Get acquainted with Cuba by exploring Old Havana, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the heart of Havana’s colonial history. Lovers of music and art will find a piece of Cuba’s rich and creative culture in galleries, on street corners, and in many notable museums. Regardless of how you plan to spend your time, you will not be disappointed by the cultural treasures Cuba has to offer. The hotel concierge will be happy to give you additional suggestions and help you make necessary arrangements for your plans.

Accompanying companions on the guest program must be a spouse or immediate family member of the professional delegate.

Breakfast is available daily at the hotel. Day 2, join the delegation for a walking tour through Old Havana. Enjoy the rest of Day 2 and subsequent days at leisure. Each night, except for Day 4, enjoy dinner at a paladar, or privately-owned restaurant, with the delegates. On Day 5, gather in the evening for a farewell reception and dinner in Havana.

Day 6 — Saturday, March 31, 2018

Transfer to Jose Marti International Airport, Havana, Cuba for individual flights home.
