Prices are based on a minimum number of 10 delegates. In the unlikely event the minimum is not met by January 9, 2018, the program will be canceled and a full refund will be issued.

Please note that this specialized program is being developed in conjunction with your professional counterpart organization.  The time, order, location, and content of the professional meetings are subject to availability of and confirmation by the hosts, as well as the relevant background and expertise of the traveling participants. This delegation will be traveling under OFAC regulation 31 CFR §515.564 General license for professional research. As such, participation is strongly encouraged for all scheduled meetings, both to remain compliant with regulations and as a general professional courtesy to the Cuban professional hosts.

**A limited number of single rooms are available at extra cost on a first-come, first-served basis, but availability cannot be guaranteed. Academic Travel Abroad will assist persons requesting a roommate. However, neither a single room nor a share can be guaranteed. Participants will be contacted to confirm/deny space in a single occupancy room while making note of the request for a roommate. If we are successful in finding a suitable roommate, the enrollee will be refunded the single supplement. If we are unsuccessful in finding a suitable roommate, the enrollee will remain enrolled with the single occupancy package.

Day 1 — Monday, April 9, 2018

Depart on individual flights to Jose Marti International Airport, Havana, Cuba. Upon arrival, transfer to the hotel, Meliá Cohiba for check-in. This evening, gather for an informational briefing and introduction, followed by a welcome dinner in a paladar, or privately-owned restaurant. (Dinner)

Day 2 — Tuesday, April 10, 2018

Begin the morning with a meeting at the Union of Cuban Jurists’ headquarters. Meet with a representative to discuss the current trends in juvenile and family court cases in Cuba. Afterwards, meet with a representative of the North American Division of the Cuban Institute for Friendship with the People. After lunch as a group, delve into an understanding of the Cuban judicial system. Discuss the difference between Cuban and US courts, elected versus appointed judiciary, and training of judiciary. Dinner tonight will be at a local restaurant. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 3 — Wednesday, April 11, 2018

This morning, observe proceedings at a local court room. Discuss the court infrastructure and staffing standards in Cuba. Following lunch as a group, visit the University of Havana Law School to meet with faculty and students. Discuss the training of judges and court staff and emerging trends in the area of embracing diversity. Dinner tonight will be at a local restaurant. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 4 — Thursday, April 12, 2018

After breakfast, meet with members of the board of directors of the Cuban Society of Constitutional Law to discuss access to technology and how it improves and/or increases access to justice. After lunch, meet with a US Embassy representative for a briefing on the current legal position of the USA in Cuba. Dinner will be at leisure. (Breakfast, Lunch)

Day 5 — Friday, April 13, 2018

This morning, visit the Legal Services Bureau to discuss advocacy, practice, and delivery of criminal and civil law services in Cuba; structure and function of community-based legal services; and the role of the lawyer in Cuba. Enjoy lunch before a final meeting with representatives from the Union of Cuban Jurists. This evening, gather for a farewell dinner, followed by a special musical performance. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 6 — Saturday, April 14, 2018

Transfer to Jose Marti International Airport, Havana, Cuba for individual flights home. (Breakfast)

Get acquainted with Cuba by exploring Old Havana, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the heart of Havana’s colonial history. Learn about the Cuban Revolution at Museo de la Revolución, and admire the impressive Baroque style architecture of the Havana Cathedral. Lovers of music and art will find a piece of Cuba’s rich and creative culture in galleries, on street corners, and in many notable museums. Regardless of how you plan to spend your time, you will not be disappointed by the cultural treasures Cuba has to offer. The hotel concierge will be happy to give you additional suggestions and help you make necessary arrangements for your plans.

Accompanying companions on the guest program must be a close relative. This includes any individual related to the professional delegate by blood, marriage, or adoption who is no more than three generations removed from that person or from a common ancestor with that person.

Breakfast is available daily at the hotel. Day 2, join the delegation for a walking tour through Old Havana. Enjoy the rest of Day 2 and subsequent days at leisure. Each night, except for Day 4, enjoy dinner at a paladar, or privately-owned restaurant, with the delegates. On Day 5, gather in the evening for a farewell reception and dinner in Havana.

Day 6 — Saturday, April 14, 2018

Transfer to Jose Marti International Airport, Havana, Cuba for individual flights home.
