Please note that this specialized program is being developed in conjunction with your professional counterpart organization.  The time, order, location, and content of the professional meetings are subject to availability of and confirmation by the hosts, as well as the relevant background and expertise of the traveling participants. This delegation will be traveling under OFAC regulation 31 CFR §515.564 General license for professional research. As such, participation is strongly encouraged for all scheduled meetings, both to remain compliant with regulations and as a general professional courtesy to the Cuban professional hosts.

Prices are based on a minimum number of 10 delegates. In the unlikely event the minimum is not met by February 25, 2019, the program will be cancelled and a full refund will be issued.

**A limited number of single rooms are available at extra cost on a first-come, first-served basis, but availability cannot be guaranteed. Academic Travel Abroad will assist persons requesting a roommate. However, neither a single room nor a share can be guaranteed. Participants will be contacted to confirm/deny space in a single occupancy room while making note of the request for a roommate. If we are successful in finding a suitable roommate, the enrollee will be refunded the single supplement. In January 2018, the Department of State launched a new system for providing safety and security information for international travel. This system replaces the Travel Warnings and Travel Alerts that were issued previously. Now, a Travel Advisory is issued for every country with a designated Level of Advice ranging from 1 to 4 – from Exercise Normal Precautions (1) to Do Not Travel (4). To see a complete list of Travel Advisories, see travel.state.gov/traveladvisories.

Under the new system, the US Department of State has assessed Cuba at level 3, Reconsider Travel. A level 3 is automatically triggered by a draw-down in U.S. embassy personnel, regardless of the risk factors. Last September, many U.S. embassy personnel in Cuba were withdrawn from Cuba because health symptoms were reported by 24 U.S. Embassy employees and two Canadian Embassy employees from December 2016 to August 2017. Symptoms included ear complaints and hearing loss, visual symptoms, dizziness, headaches, and cognitive issues.

Please rest assured that your safety and well-being are our top priority. We would not consider offering programs to Cuba unless we deem the risks comparatively low. Our risk management company has confirmed this assessment. Please note that by enrolling on this trip, you have acknowledged that you have read the Cuba Travel Advisory. Should you cancel after enrollment due to the advisory, all cancellation penalties will be incurred.
