Shirley Lefever

Shirley Lefever has been the Dean of the College of Education at Wichita State University since 2015 and is the immediate Past President of the Association of Teacher Educators. She began at WSU in 2005 to serve as the Department Chair for Curriculum and Instruction. Soon after, she became the Associate Dean for the College of Education in 2008 and Sr. Associate Dean in 2012. Lefever’s previous experiences in higher education include 14 years at the University of Arkansas where she was awarded the Outstanding Teaching award for the College of Education and Health Professions in 1996. In addition to serving as a university liaison to the Professional Development Schools, she also served as the Graduate Coordinator for the Department of Curriculum and Instruction.

Lefever has continued to build on her deep commitment to strong clinical practice models of teacher preparation at Wichita State University where the WSU Professional Development School teacher preparation model was recently recognized by the Council of Great City Schools as the recipient of the Shirley S. Schwartz Urban Impact award as well as the Association of Teacher Educators, Distinguished Program in Teacher Education award. She has served on numerous task forces, commissions and committees with a focus on teacher preparation, most recently serving on the Kansas State Department of Education Blue Ribbon Panel committee to study teacher vacancies across the state as well as the AACTE Clinical Practice Commission.
