Day 1 — Sunday, April 15 | Jerusalem to Petra
Transfer from Jerusalem hotel to Allenby Bridge. After crossing the border to Jordan, start your day with a trip to Madaba, “The City of Mosaics,” to visit St. George Church where there is a clear map of the Holy Land (including Israel, Palestine & Lower Egypt).
Then pay a visit to Mt. Nebo, where Moses was laid to rest, and where the late Pope John Paul II tread on his first pilgrimage of the millennium. Continue to Petra.
Dinner and overnight in Petra. (Dinner)
Day 2 — Monday, April 16 | Petra
In the morning, explore Petra. Walk through the astonishing rose-red city, which was built by the Nabateans (an early Arab tribe) more than 2000 years ago. Petra was renowned for its massive architecture, pools, dams and water channels.
Proceed to the entrance of the Siq, which is about 1.2 km long (walking distance). You may rent a chariot (if you’re so inclined) to further your experience as you visit the treasury, royal tombs, court, roman theatre, and the gasser el-bint (the palace of Pharaoh’s daughter) that all contribute to Petra’s status as the second wonder of the world.
Dinner and overnight in Petra. (Breakfast, Dinner)
Day 3 — Tuesday, April 17 | Petra
Depart from Petra, and travel to the Roman city of Jerash. View Bab Amman, an arch dedicated to Emperor Hadrian upon his first visit to the city, and walk through the Forum, surrounded by columns and supported by an underground wall. The Temple of Zeus houses a geometrically perfect set of stairs, while the South Theater would have accommodated around 4,000 people. The city's main 'high street' was the Street of Columns, connecting the north-to-south axis of the city. See the chariot tracks which have remained carved into the stone for centuries.
Continue to Amman, a metropolis in the center of Jordan, the capital of the Hashemite Kingdom and the largest city in the country. Enjoy a tour of Amman before checking into the hotel for dinner and overnight. (Breakfast, Dinner)
